The Echo Dot with Clock, with its seven-segment display, was a commercial success. However,
it was a restricted experience. The seven-segmented display could only show a few domains, time,
a timer, and stocks. This problem led the engineering team to reinvent the display for more extensive experience.
The engineering team came to us to investigate the potential use of the LED dot matrix display versus the seven-segmented display. My first task was to explore the possible new experiences
that a new LED display could bring to users. I looked at the interplay between the new display and
Alexa VUI. Created CX flows and motion experiences to show the unique potential use cases. For example, in one experience, I showed the caller's name when someone was calling, or in another experience, I showed the music title when the music was playing.
Additionally, I studied the technical aspects of the display, including the effects of different fonts,
dot sizes, and their adaptation to various languages. Working with engineers hand in hand, we tested other LED matrix grids to find a display that would have the best legibility.
