In today's Alexa app experience, users who own 15+ smart home devices in their home go through
the list of smart devices and choose the correct one they want to control. This experience is becoming more and more unreliable and mismanaged because of 1. Smart home devices are becoming more available 2. Customers are setting up more smart devices in their home(s), and 3. More customers
are spending more time at home.
This cumbersome, non-scalable experience led the Ring and Alexa team to develop a more contextual solution where users can control and manage their devices on the virtual floor plan that they scanned during the enrollment process. It gives users a bird's eye view of their home's floor plan and allows them to see their devices on the floor plan exactly how they are situated in the real world.
My Role in this program is wide-scale. I spearheaded one-off future experiences (5 to 10 years) to
get leadership's interest. This future thinking led to the Map View program moving forward. Created high-fidelity CX flows to understand how users will interact with this new experience. I created a unique visual experience system for Map View in the Alexa app. I worked with internal teams to align on iconography, color system, typography, and additional UI elements that never existed in the app.
I worked with engineers and scientists to create a flawless, easy-to-use scanning experience that takes the least time to scan a floor plan. And much more.
